Georgian football fans who incited violence during a championship football game in Kutaisi on Saturday will have to pay up to 500 GEL in fines.
Kutaisi City Court charged 16 supporters of Kutaisi-based team "Torpedo” with fines ranging from 100 to 500 GEL today.
The Georgian Football Federation’s Discipline Committee will announce its decision and potential consequences later today.
A mid-match clash occurred between rival Georgian teams Kutaisi "Torpedo” and Tbilisi "Dinamo” on March 8 at Kutaisi Stadium.
The fight started during the game when the local team was losing 2-0.
Fans began to throw stones at the football players, which lead to a fight between "Torpedo” and "Dinamo” supporters.
About a hundred fans surged onto the pitch and began attacking each other and some of the players. A handful of athletes and revelers received minor injuries and were given first aid at the scene.
Dinamo fan club members were evacuated from the field with a police escort.
The match was cancelled following the fight.
