The President of Georgia’s official visit to Armenia is continuing today.
Giorgi Margvelashvili and members of the governmental delegation met with Armenia’s Prime Minister at an official lunch today where the parties discussed prospects to enhance political and economic relations between the two nations.
After this, Margvelashvili and the Georgian delegation were hosted by the Chairperson of the National Assembly of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan. At the meeting, the sides touched on issues relating to cooperation between Georgian and Armenian legislative governments by intensifying relations between the Parliamentary friends groups, the President’s press centre announced.
At the end of the meeting, the President wrote his impressions in the remembrance book.
His busy schedule also saw Margvelashvili meet the Catholicos of Armenia, Karekin II, at the Holy Etchmiadzin.
The Catholicos expressed his joy about the ongoing cooperation between the two countries and stressed that such mutual visits contributed to strengthening the relationship between the two peoples’ and countries.
Meanwhile, the religions head expressed gratitude toward ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, who sponsored the restoration of cultural monuments belonging to the Armenian Church from his own "CARTU” fund.
Armenian Patriarch Karekin II gifted an icon of the Virgin Mary to Georgia’s President to show his thanks.
Following the meeting, Margvelashvili visited the Christian museum of cathedral treasure.
Also today Margelashvili visited the family of Robert Abrahamyan, who live in Etchmiadzin. In a chance meeting 27 years ago, the President met the musician in Armenia and became life-long friends.
