Armenian people living in Georgia contribute significantly to the country’s development, said Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili following a meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan today.
"Georgia is the meeting place of culture and freedom, where cultures develop within our region and we move in new directions,” Margvelashvili said at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart.
Margvelashvili had praise for his neighbor country and focused on the elements that untied the two nations.
"Georgia and Armenia have had relations lasting centuries and we are eager to develop this relationship even deeper. We discussed these opportunities, my Armenian counterpart and I,” Margvelashvili said.
Georgia’s President stressed he had finished meeting with the three countries that border Georgia – Turkey, Azerbaijan and now Armenia - and Georgia still preserved neighbourly relations in the region.
Meanwhile, Sargsyan said two sides discussed the perspectives of bilateral relations.
"Traditionally, we pay the greatest importance to strengthening the good neighbourhood relations in the region. This will stimulate preserving the stability in the region,” he said.
"One of the main directions of Armenia’s Foreign Policy is to further tighten its partnership relations with Georgia,” Sargsyan said.
Armenia’s President also highlighted the fact the two countries had the same opinion in peacefully resolving conflicts and with the protection of international principles.
Following the meeting, Margvelashvili was attended a working dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Georgia Tigran Sargsyan.
Margvelashvili’s official schedule also includes a meeting with the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ovik Abramyan.
Georgia’s President will end his official two day visit by attending a meeting with the Armenian Catholicos-Patriarch Karekin II tomorrow.
