Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office has started investigating a video showing former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili demanding "two dead bodies” in exchange for a "high bonus” from military servicemen.

The video was leaked on the youtube social network just before midnight last night.

Today, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office said it would investigate the video footage.

"Due to the fact that the video released on January 29 clearly shows illegal order of a high-ranking official, the Prosecution has launched an investigation into this case,” the Office said in a statement.

The Office will study the legality of the Mukhrovani operation, which resulted in severe damage to Koba Otanadze’s health and the death of Giorgi Krialashvili,” the statement read.

A scandalous video revealing details of a special operation by the former government was leaked on the internet last night.

In the video, Georgia’s former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili, who is currently being held in pre-trial detention for an issue relating to when he was the Interior Minister, addresses the people in military uniform and says that he needs two dead bodies.

"I need two men, two dead bodies, bring the two dead bodies to me, that’s it! The bonus will be high,” Merabishvili tells the men in uniform, before telling them to "act immediately”.

It is believed the video was taken while the former government was trying to neutralize the mutiny by a Georgian Army tank Battalion based in Mukhrovani on May 5, 2009 also known as Mukhrovani Case.

As a result, one of the rebels, Giorgi Krialashvili, was killed during the operation and Koba Otanadze and Levan Amiridze were wounded.
