People in Georgia have a unique chance to experience a new culture this winter without leaving the comfort of home.
Japan and Georgia might be separated by land and sea but the ancient traditional Japanese dance is coming to the capital city Tbilisi tonight for a one-off performance, before the dance troupe head to Kutaisi for a show on December 5.
The Embassy of Japan in Georgia is promoting the special performance of the Wa-league team from the Kabuki Buyo Theater, who are expected to perform some of the country’s most popular dances such as ‘Do-joji’ and ‘Ataka no matsukaze’.
Kabuki is the traditional Japanese theatre and has a history spanning more than 400 years. In 2008 Kabuki was inscribed on the representative list of the UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Besides Kabuki Buyo, the troupe will play a traditional Japanese drum named ‘wadaiko’ and a three-string instrument named ‘shamisen’.
The Japanese dancers will perform at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theater in Tbilisi at 8pm tonight and at the Meliton Balanchivadze State Opera and Ballet Theater in Kutaisi at 7pm on December 5.
Entrance is free of charge.
