Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has met with Free Democrats leader and ex-Defence Minister Irakli Alasania and had an open discussion about all things from his recent ministerial dismissal, the current political situation in the country, issues facing the Defence Ministry and projects implemented in the defensive sector.

"We exchanged views, opinions on current political events happening in Georgia,” Alasania said.

The ex-Minister informed the President about numerous projects recently implemented in the defensive sector and noted these would be continued by the Ministry, which was now being led by Mindia Janelidze.

"As Head of Georgian Armed Forces I presented report to the President about projects starting in Defence Ministry during my management.”

Alasania also believed the investigation into the Defence Ministry and its officials, and the subsequent trial, would be conducted transparently.

"We believe that the investigation and court process will be conducted openly and transparently. Truth will be determined and society will see how many achievements the Defence Ministry reached,” he said.

"We also highlighted that in Georgia it is vital to build up pro-Western political forces and strengthen political institutions,” Alasania said.
