Georgia is developing in the right direction, the country’s Prime Minister believes.

PM Irakli Garibashvili briefly summed up Georgia’s past two years in his special public address today that marked the second anniversary of Georgia Dream winning the 2012 Parliamentary Elections and coming into power.

"The Georgian people chose life without fear on October 1 [2012],” Garibashvili said.

"The people chose prospects, progress and development for each and every person. Our people gained this victory as a result of a long-term struggle and believe me, it was not easy.’’

"I would like to express that I am glad for our people’s heroism. This victory would have been impossible without people’s support and of course, without [former PM] Bidzina Ivanishvili - the person who managed to consolidate all opposition forces and beat the regime.”

Garibashvili said his team had achieved success in all spheres from healthcare, education and agriculture to "finally guaranteeing the rule of law”.

The PM said each Georgian citizen was equal before the law today. "No one stands beyond the law,” he stated.

Garibashvili also mentioned the recent ratings regarding the media freedom index and said he was proud that Georgian ranked first among Eastern Partnership countries. He believed a strong and independent media was one of the measures of the level of democracy in the country.

The PM declared Georgia was stably following the European way chosen by the Georgian people. He stressed the importance of the European Union Association Agreement, which the country signed earlier this year.

In addition, Garibashvili said the main aim of his Government was to reconcile with their "Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers” and reunite their homeland.

However the PM did not rule out there could be certain problems left in the country. "But I want to assure you that our Government is serving our country truly faithfully,” Garibashvili said.

"That is why we will together overcome all difficulties and no obstacle will be able to interrupt our way of development.”
