The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will hold its 24th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors and Business Forum in Tbilisi on 14-15 May 2015.

The announcement was made after a meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, and the EBRD President, Sir Suma Chakrabarti at the World Economic Forum in Davos today, January 24.

During the meeting the EBRD President congratulated the Georgian leader on his recent appointment to the post.

Georgia, hailed as a top reformer in the EBRD region, recently underwent a democratic transfer of power. President Chakrabarti highlighted that EBRD governors enthusiastically supported Tbilisi as the host city for the 2015 Annual Meeting.

The EBRD President also said that the EBRD looked forward to increasing investment in Georgia and named the hydropower sector as one area in which investment is likely to grow.

The Tbilisi event will follow this year’s EBRD Annual Meeting in Warsaw, which will take place on May 14 and 15 in the National Stadium. The theme of the 2014 Annual Meeting in Warsaw is "Changing Economies, Changing Lives”.

The EBRD Annual Meeting is an institutional event where key decisions are taken about the Bank’s direction. Furthermore, the EBRD also holds a business forum that offers debate, networking with senior decision-makers, investment outlook sessions and other events focusing on countries where the Bank invests.

The EBRD was founded in 1991 to help its member countries on the path to democracy and the market economy. It is now active in 34 nations.

In 2012 it added Egypt, Jordan, Kosovo, Morocco and Tunisia to the region in which it invests.
