New Tbilisi Mayor begins duties

The new Mayor brought some personal items for his office including books about Tbilisi City.

The recently elected Mayor of Tbilisi has begun his first working day at Tbilisi City Hall and named five people who would uptake various Deputy Mayoral roles.

Davit Narmania appeared at City Hall with chairman of the Tbilisi City Council (Sakrebulo) Gia Alibegashvili this morning. The new Mayor brought some personal items for his office including books about Tbilisi city.

Speaking to journalists outside City Hall, Narmania said he was prepared to get stuck into his duties on Monday.

"I am sure we will work actively and justify the trust which voters have in us. We will work in a 24-hour working mode beginning from the next week after the City Council approves the city Government," Narmania said.

Mayor Narmania named five people who would uptake various Deputy Mayoral duties and named former Deputy Minister of Culture Aleqsandre Margishvili as his first Deputy Mayor. Other Deputy Mayors will be ex-Transparency International Georgia employee Nina Khatiskatsi, as well as Giorgi Khelaia, Giorgi Solomonia and Aluda Goglichidze.

Narmania said he selected the candidates according to their professionalism, qualifications and variety of working experience.

"It is a very interesting team who are purposeful, experienced and hard-working people. They will be with me day and night to make Tbilisi a more attractive and comfortable city," Narmania said.

He also named Governors (Gamgebelis) for ten districts of the capital city and head of Tbilisi City Hall Administration.
