Georgian Dream were biggest spenders for Municipal Elections

Georgian political parties spent more than 11 million GEL to promote their parties ahead of the 2014 Municipal Elections.

Figures released today revealed 11,860,771 GEL was spent in total by all political players before the June 15 elections.

The Political Parties Financial Monitoring Service revealed the largest amount of money was spent by Georgian Dream coalition, followed by United National Movement (UNM) and Christian-Democratic Movement.

Overall Georgian Dream spent 6,318,735 GEL during the elections. Out of this money, the election bloc received 5,266,701 GEL in the form of cash donations and 629,507 GEL as budget revenue.

Opposition bloc UNM were the second biggest spenders and spent 2,435,792 in the elections. The total amount of cash donations for UNM amounted to 299,383 GEL and the budget revenue was 584,511 GEL.

After UNM, the biggest amount of money was spent by Christian-Democratic Movement. The group spent 796,431 GEL, which came from 335,802 GEL cash donations and 82,809 GEL budget revenue.

Next was Non-Parliamentary Opposition, who spent 708,928 GEL from 11,143 cash donations and 19,131 GEL budget revenue.

As for the amount of money spent on advertising during the elections period, Georgian Dream also lead the group.

Georgian Dream spent 3,202,445 GEL on advertsing, UNM spent 1,289,196 GEL, Alliance for Patriots spent 352,855 GEL and Christian-Democratic Movement spent 188,344 GEL.

In total, all political parties spent 5,236,083 on advertising during the Municipal Elections.

Overall 1,143 candidates were registered to take part in the elections but some were eliminated before Election Day, so on June 15, 20 political parties, 4 elections blocs and 821 initiative groups participated in the event.
