More than 17 million GEL will be spent on 85 infrastructure projects in Georgias famous wine-making region in 2014.
The money has been allocated to projects in Kakheti from the state budget.
Government Commission on Regional Development decided to finance the projects based on the priorities defined by the municipalities and the regional Governor.
Kakheti, the historic province of eastern Georgia, is made up of eight administrative districts. Infrastructural projects are planned to be completed in each.
The Gurjaani Municipality, the regions largest city by population, has been granted about three million GEL. The money will mainly be spent on asphalting rural roads and upgrading the drinking water system.

More than three million GEL has also been allocated to finance 17 projects in the Telavi Municipality. Within these finances, the streets of Telavi city will be covered with ground surface. The city roadways will also be renovated.
Nine projects in the Sagarejo Municipality will be financed with more than two million GEL. Restoring old bridges, renovating river-beds, and building a kindergarten in the Udabno village are among the planned projects.
Drainage canals will be built and a park will be renovated in the Lagodekhi town centre of the Lagodekhi Municipality of Kakheti. Just under two million GEL has been given to the municipality for this.
Almost two million GEL was given to the Akhmeta Municipality as well. Restoring a burnt Culture House and four other infrastructural projects will be funded with this money.
Slightly less than two million GEL has been allocated to the Sighnaghi district to asphalt rural roads and setup an efficient water system.

Three infrastructural projects will be financed with 1.5 million GEL in Kvareli - home to a writer and one of the founding fathers of modern Georgia, Ilia Chavchavadze. A cultural-sports-fitness centre will also be renovated in a nearby village of Akhalsopeli.
Work in the smallest municipality of the region, Dedoplistskaro, will be financed with almost two million GEL. By the end of the year, Dedoplistskaro residents will have new rural roads and a renovated drinking water system.

Kakheti and especially its Sighnaghi town is becoming an important tourist destination. The region is bordered by the Russian Federation to the Northeast and Azerbaijan to the Southeast.
