Hundreds of thousands of Georgian residents will be able to dump their rubbish in a more modern landfill funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Authorities announced two modern rubbish dumping sites were planned to be built in Georgia’s Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Shida Kartli regions.
Once completed, more than 200,000 residents in these areas will able to use the modern rubbish dumping sites.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure began negotiations over the construction of the two regional landfills with the EBRD today.
A meeting about the project was held at the Ministry and was attended by Deputy Minister Giorgi Solomonia, Solid Waste Management Company Ltd director Giorgi Shukhoshvili and representatives of the EBRD.
Discussions of the meeting focused on the population of the two regions, as well as the situation of the solid waste and tariffs.
The ERBD announced it would help finance the new project.
One part of the total sum will be allocated as a low-interest loan, while the other portion will be transferred as a grant from the donor to the Georgian state.
After official procedures are completed, technical-economic substantiation of the project will be carried out and construction works will begin.
