Georgian designer appointed as Thierry Mugler creative director

The 28-year-old David Koma, London-based fashion designer of Georgian descent known for his sculptural creations, was appointed as the creative director of Thierry Mugler Fashion House.

Komas first catwalk show will take place at the Paris Fashion Week in September 2014.

 ''We want to write a new page for Mugler, putting it back on the map in the fashion business. We have the potential to modernize it and I think the potential is huge.'' said director of development, marketing and communications at Thierry Mugler, Virginie Courtin-Clarins.

David Koma, whose real name is Davit Komakhidze, was born in 1984 in Tbilisi. The fashion critics call him a fashion wunderkind. Koma created his first collection at age of 15. He graduated from Central Saint Martins of Art and Design in London in 2009 and won Harrods Design Awards for his graduate collection.

Nowadays, over 50 fashion shops sell David Komas collection. He regularly dresses pop-stars like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and so on.

Georgian fashion designer succeeded Italian fashion editor Nicola Formichetti as French fashion house Thierry Mugler's artistic director.
