Georgian judoka Varlam Liparteliani claimed gold at the 2023 Tashkent Grand Slam on Sunday, earning the top step of the podium in the -100 kg weight category of the tournament.

Liparteliani, a silver medal winner of the Olympic games, defeated his Austrian rival Aaron Fara in the final.

The 34-year-old Georgian athlete brought the first gold medal to the Georgian national judo team at the tournament.
