Georgia’s 2022 European Champion Luka Maisuradze on Thursday defeated his compatriot Lasha Bekauri, the reigning Olympic Champion, in an all-Georgian final in the men’s individual under 90kg category at the World Judo Championships in Doha.
It was the first-ever meeting between two Georgians in a World Championship final, with the fixture proving tense.

The winner was not determined in the regular time, but in the extra time Maisuradze performed an effective waza-ari to claim the title, his first World Championship following bronze medals in 2019 and 2022.
Sweden’s Marcus Nyman finished third in the category after defeating Italy’s Christian Parlati in the match for the bronze.
The World Championships are running between May 7-14.
