Georgian police officers have arrested 20 drug dealers, including foreign citizens, for purchase, storage and possession of “especially large quantities” of drugs, Teimuraz Kupatadze, the Head of the Central Criminal Police Department said on Tuesday.

Kupatadze said the offenders had been arrested in capital Tbilisi and other cities, and noted more arrests could be made with the investigation still underway.

He also added the investigation was ongoing throughout the country, including in the Ponichala district in Tbilisi, in order to arrest other suspects involved in the case.

The central criminal police department uncovered an online drug trafficking scheme in November with the arrest of 18 drug dealers, including Ukrainian, Kazakh and Russian citizens involved in the crime.
