Georgian police detain four for online drug trafficking

Georgian law enforcers have detained four individuals for online drug trafficking. 

One of the four detainees has been charged with the sale of drugs in especially large quantities which is punishable up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, while three others have been charged with the attempted sale of drugs which is punishable up to 14 years in prison. 

Police have confiscated methadone, bio, alpha-PVP and other drugs from the flats of the detainees. 

In May 2020 the Georgian Interior Ministry proposed tougher punishment for the sale of drugs, as well as for psychotropic and psychoactive substances. 

According to the bill the minimum punishment for the sale of drugs, psychotropic and psychoactive substances will amount to 6-10 years, while the sale of drugs in large quantities will be punishable by 12-17 years in prison. 

The sale of drugs in especially large quantities will be punishable by 14-20 years in prison (instead of the current 8-20 years in prison) or life imprisonment.
