The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has uncovered an online drug trafficking scheme and arrested five drug dealers in the country’s coastal Adjara region and capital Tbilisi, the Ministry said on Thursday.
The Ministry said the arrested individuals, identified as leaders of a criminal group, had placed buprenorphine and other substances at concealed spots in the capital city and contacted clients through the internet to facilitate extraction of the drugs.
Law enforcers also arrested three individuals for illegal marijuana cultivation, as well as storage and sale of drugs in Tbilisi, and seized up to four kilograms of marijuana, 39 illegal cannabis plants, and MDMA.
The crimes are punishable up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
