Police detains Iranian citizen trying to smuggle in 8 kg heroin into Georgia

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained an Iranian citizen who illegally crossed the Georgian-Armenian border with 8 kg and 500 grams of heroin in his possession.

The 31-year-old individual also had 10 pills of buprenorphine and one package of methamphetamine with him.

The crime is punishable by 15-20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

The ministry also reported the recent detention of Iranian, Turkish and Georgian citizens for the possession of drugs in especially large quantities.

Police seized more than 600 grams of heroin from the Iranian citizen, 480 pills of ecstasy were seized from the Turkish national and 130 pills of subutex were seized from the Georgian citizen.

The crime is punishable by 8-20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
