Tbilisi City Hall is continuing to modernise the streets of the Georgian capital through the development of infrastructure and green spaces, making them more suitable for the citizens of the city.
After the complete rehabilitation of Pekini Street in Tbilisi’s Saburtalo district, its neighbouring streets of Merab Kostava and Zhiuli Shartava are now being modernised.

A new one-kilometer-long bicycle lane has opened on Kostava and Shartava streets. Additionally, a bus lane has also been introduced which will be used only for public transport – buses and minibuses (marshrutkas). Members of the general public driving personal vehicles in the bus lanes will be fined.
The existing street lamps have been replaced by European-style street lighting.Street lamp poles are substituted and European type illumination are installed on both streets.
Also, about 200 plants have been placed on the streets in an effort to make them more green.
In general, over the past several weeks, Tbilisi City Hall has been carrying out an aggressive campaign to turn Tbilisi green. Thousands of trees, bushes, flowers, and grassy areas have been planted throughout the city.

Recently, a 6,000 square meter area along Chavchavadze Avenue of Tbilisi’s Vake district has been adorned with 2,500 bushes as a part of the ‘Care About the City’ campaign.
