The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have helped the governments of Georgia and Azerbaijan to raise standards of sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary border control.
The EU and UNDP have also been involved in improving border management infrastructure and equipment and enhancing the institutional capacities of border management agencies.
Georgian and Azerbaijani government officials, in addition to representatives of the EU and UNDP, travelled to the Red Bridge border crossing point last Friday for the opening ceremony of the new facilities: an up-to-date and fully equipped sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary inspection point on the Georgian side of the border and a new customs terminal on the Azerbaijani end of the Red Bridge.
The project ran for three years.
