Turkish Airlines most popular on Georgian aviation market

The total number of passengers served by Georgia’s three international airports amounted to 4,073,959 in 2017. With 12 percent, Turkish Airlines tops the list of the most popular airline companies operating in Georgia.
Last year the national flag carrier airline of Turkey carried the largest number of passengers in and out of Georgia, announced the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.
The top five airline companies that carried the largest number of passengers in 2017 in the Georgian aviation market were:
- Turkish Airlines – 463,840 passengers (12 percent)
- Georgian Airways – 385,894 passengers (10 percent)
- Wizz Air – 313,325 passengers (eight percent)
- Ukraine International Airlines – 282,616 passengers (seven percent)
- Fly Dubai – 244,208 passengers (six percent)
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is adding a new airplane this year in its base in Georgia’s Kutaisi International Airport to cater to the growing number of passengers.
Georgia’s three international airports served 4,073,959 passengers in 2017, which is a 43.43 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
Georgia’s three international airports served 3,816,538 passengers in the first 11 months of 2017, which is a 44.48 percent increase year-on-year (y/y). Tbilisi International Airport alone served 2,943,417 passengers between January-November, which was a 40.89 percent increase y/y, announced Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.
Georgia’s three international airports served 3,258,382 passengers in the first nine months of 2017, which is a 49.35 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
More than 500 representatives of 65 airline companies and 250 airports are visiting Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi to participate in the European Aviation Forum, CONNECT 2018.
The record increase was mainly due to adding new, low-cost flights to European cities. 187 flights were carried out in May alone, which is a 26% increase in comparison to the same period last year.
In January-September 2019, the top three airline companies by the number of passengers operating in Georgia are Wizz Air, Turkish Airlines and Georgian Airways, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA).
