Heavy rainfall causes problems in some Tbilisi districts

Several buildings were flooded as a result of heavy rainfall in Tbilisi last night.
Akhmeteli subway access was flooded heavily while the emergency service has received calls about flooding in the basements of residential buildings in Gldani, Mukhiani and Digomi districts as well.
On several motorways around the city, the level of the water increased so high that traffic movement was hindered. Due to the heavy flooding, several cars got stuck in water and rescuers had to save them during the night.
According to the Hydrometeorological Department of National Environment Agency of Georgia rainy and cool weather is expected in Tbilisi and Eastern Georgia for today too but the rainfall is not going to be as heavy as last night. Beginning from tomorrow the agency expects sunny weather throughout Georgia.
Strong winds on Wednesday morning have caused a number of problems across Georgia from downed power lines to property damage. Hundreds of families have been left without electricity after winds hit the capital Tbilisi and several regions in eastern Georgia.
Georgia’s Emergency Management Service employees have managed to save five people in west Georgia who were standing in a precarious position on an artificial hillock that emerged after the flooding of the river Rioni.
Many of the streets of Georgia’s third largest city of Kutaisi have been flooded after a river expanded over its riverbed following a heavy rainfall. Weather experts expect a powerful, magnitude-seven storm at the Black Sea coastline later today.
Several villages in the Kobuleti Municipality in the coastal Adjara region were drastically flooded. Small village rivers swell over their riverbeds, flooding nearby roads and sweeping away a bridge connecting two villages.
In Tbilisi the highest temperature over the next few days is forecast at 40 degrees Celsius.
Powerful rain has resulted in the flooding of houses and streets in the Gardabani, Gori, Signagi and Lagodekhi municipalities last night.
Saturday night's heavy wind and rain have badly affected some of the districts in Tbilisi, as well as other regions of Georgia. The Emergency Management Centre has received about 25 calls from Tbilisi and 20 calls from Shida Kartli, in Georgia's east.
