NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has made a statement ahead of the Alliance's foreign ministerial, in which he declared the NATO-Georgia partnership is outstanding.

Our partnership is outstanding. Our forces serve side by side in Afghanistan, and train side by side in Georgia. We will conclude with a meeting on NATO’s Open Door policy and how we can best support countries that aspire to NATO membership,” Stoltenberg said.

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is taking part in the ministerial which opened today.

Janelidze will meet with high officials including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson as well as foreign ministers of other NATO member states.

Tomorrow, on the final days of the event, the NATO-Georgia Commission meeting will take place.

We will review the security situation and the country’s ongoing reforms, which are bringing it closer to NATO”, Stoltenberg commented on the upcoming commission meeting.

The NATO-Georgia Commission was established in September 2008 to serve as a forum for both political consultations and practical cooperation to help Georgia achieve its goal of membership in NATO.
