German Chancellor Angela Merkel has congratulated Giorgi Kvirikashvili on becoming Prime Minister of Georgia in a special letter of congratulations.

Merkel also welcomed the European Commission’s positive progress report regarding Georgia’s visa liberalisation. She said this should become the Georgian Government’s motivation to continue its reforms.

"I’m confident the relations between our countries will continue in the positive direction in the future too,” the German official wrote.
"Germany will remain a reliable partner for Georgia on its path of democratic and economic development”.

Merkel wished Kvirikashvili a successful term and noted: "I’ll be happy if I see you in Berlin soon”.

Kvirikashvili was confirmed by Georgia's Parliament as the country's new Prime Minister on December 30, 2015.
