One section of the main road between Georgia and Russia is closed to all vehicles due to heavy snow.
Today Georgia's Road Department reported the Gudauri-Kobi section of eastern Georgia’s Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi route was closed to all vehicles due to heavy snow and the threat of avalanches.
Meanwhile the Mleta–Gudauri section of the same road is closed for truck and trailer units, semi-trailers and vehicles that can carry more than 30 passengers.
Other types of vehicles can travel on this section of road with anti-skid chains, while the road is open to off-road vehicles.
The Roads Department said at this stage it was impossible to clear the affected roads but works would begin as soon as it stopped snowing.
