One section of the main road between Georgia and Russia is closed to all vehicles due to heavy snow.
Today Georgia's National Environment Agency reported the Gudauri-Kobi section of eastern Georgia’s Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi route was closed to all vehicles due to heavy snow and avalanche threats.
Meanwhile the Mleta–Gudauri section of the same road is closed for truck and trailers, semi-trailers and vehicles that can carry more than 30 passengers.
Other types of vehicles can travel on this section of road with anti-skid chains, while the road is open for off-road vehicles.
Heavy snow has also caused problems in west Georgia.
The 36-60km section of the Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road, same as the Nakerala Pass, is closed for truck and trailers, semi-trailers and vehicles that can carry more than 30 passengers.
Other transport can move freely on this road section.
Meanwhile special rules have been enforced on an international road leading to Turkey, referring to the 80-93km section of the eastern Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale road.
Due to heavy snow, ice on the road and low visibility truck and trailer units, semi-trailers and vehicles that can carry more than 30 passengers are only allowed to drive on this section of road if they're fitted with anti-skid chains, while the road is open to all other vehicles without any additional safety measures.
