Heavy snowfall and low visibility has once again caused problems on Georgia’s roads.
The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia announced today that several road sections were currently facing restrictions.
In particular, the directions under stricture were the following:
- The Gudauri-Kobi section of eastern Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi route was closed for all transport. Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road is the route linking Georgia with Russia.
- The Aragvispiri-Gudauri and Kobi-Larsi sections of the same road were closed for trailer trucks, semi-trailers and the transport with more than 30-seat capacity. The rest of vehicles were allowed to freely move on these sections;
- The 90-112km of southern Akhaltsikhe-Ninotsminda route, which is a border area with Armenia, was closed for all transport due to the threat of storm and limited visibility;
- The 110-146km section of the southern Koda-Partskhisi-Manglisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda road, which is near the village of Rodionovka and Ninotsminda, was also closed for all vehicles.
- The 100-188km road section (between the villages of Lakhamura and Ushguli) of western Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili route was allowed through snit-skid chains. No restrictions were imposed for off-road vehicles. The Zugdidi-Lakhamura section of this road was open for all transport.
- The 94-110 km road section of the southern Koda-Partskhisi-Manglisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda route, which is a pass area, was closed for all transport.
The agency said all the relevant bodies are alert to clean roads in a timely manner.
