Developing the level of agricultural cooperation between Georgia and Austria was the focus of a meeting between representatives of the two countries today.

Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Nodar Kereselidze and director of the Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics of Austria Thomas Resl met in Tbilisi and explored ways the countries could deepen bilateral relations and share experiences in the agricultural sector.

Kereselidze spoke about the scheduled projects that aimed to develop Georgia’s agro sector, and noted it was important for European countries to share their experience with Georgia as it implemented such projects.

In particular, Kereselidze said it was essential to learn the Austrian model of developing agro-tourism and agriculture in mountainous regions.

Winemaking was one of the leading directions of agriculture in Austria, as it was in Georgia. Accordingly, he saw the potential of deepening cooperation in this direction.

During the meeting the sides also discussed the opportunities of future cooperation between the Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics of Austria and Georgia’s Agricultural Research Institute.

The Austrian side expressed its readiness to actively become involved in a variety of projects in Georgia that were under the auspices of the European Union (EU) and other donor organisations.
