Georgia sends Independence Day greetings to US

The United States of America celebrates its 239th Independence Day today.

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili have extended their greetings to the government and people of the United States (US) on the occasion of the of 239th Independence Day of the US.

PM Garibashvili used Twitter to wish the US a "fantastic day of celebrations”.

President Margvelashvili sent a congratulation letter to US President Barack Obama.

"It is my pleasure to convey to you my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America,” he wrote.

The Georgian leader also said Georgia paid "high importance” to the development of "friendly and mutually beneficial” relations with the US.

"I would like to use this opportunity and extend my gratitude for the US support rendered to Georgia`s consolidation of Democracy, the non-recognition policy of our occupied regions as well as for the unwavering stance of Georgia`s sovereignty and territorial integrity and our Euro-Atlantic aspiration,” Margvelashvili’s letter read.

"Esteemed Mr. President, Georgia is firmly standing to protect our common principles and values related to freedom, democracy and peace. Georgian soldiers have served shoulder to shoulder with the US forces to maintain stability worldwide.

"Having strategic partnership with your country, I remain confident that the strong historical ties as well as long-lasting friendship between Georgia and the United States will be further enhanced and become ever stronger for the mutual benefit of our two nations.”
