Hundreds of disabled people living in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region are able to live safer and in a more comfortable environment with the opening of a new social centre, worth almost $100,000 USD.
The opening ceremony of the new Social Care Centre for People with Disabilities was held in Telavi, Kakheti region today.
The centre has undergone major renovations to provide a safer and more comfortable environment for more than 200 beneficiaries. Officials said more than $90,000 USD was allocated to the project, which aimed to improve the living standards of Georgian people.
The financial side of the project - the grant contract - concluded on March 26, 2014 between the Embassy of Japan and local fund New Life.
Meanwhile the project was implemented with assistance of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), which aimed at improving the living standards of the local population. The grant applied to projects in areas including public health, education, social protection, environment and poverty reduction.
Ambassador of Japan to Georgia Toshio Kaitani, representatives of local government authorities and members of related organisations attended the opening ceremony.
