Tbilisi underground passages fitted with elevators

People with disabilities and the elderly will soon have the possibility to move more comfortably throughout the capital city thanks to elevators being fitted in a number of underground passages.
Tbilisi City Hall administration announced in the first stage of the project elevators will be installed in two underground access ways, for which 150 000 GEL had been allocated.
Construction of the first elevator was almost complete at the underground passageway near the Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Only electrical work has still to finish and after that, the elevator will come into force.
The installation of a second elevator was planned in the underground passage near Vake Park on Tamarashvili St.
At this site preparation works were almost completed and installation of the elevator will start in the near future, authorities said.
Children with disabilities and special needs living in Georgia will receive increased financial aid and special services for the next year.

One of Tbilisi’s long-time problems - darkened and dirty underground passages – is being given a makeover to soon become clean, illuminated and safe.
Inspectors will be patrolling underground passages across the Georgian capital of Tbilisi to ensure safety and order. Underground patrols will later be replaced by surveillance cameras but until the process of installing cameras begins, special inspectors will be in charge.
