About forty children from a small western Georgian village now have a fully equipped, brand new kindergarten building – thanks to the Japanese government.
The new kindergarten in Jalaurta village, Sachkhere district, was built within the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), funded by the government of Japan.
Under the grant the new building for the local kindergarten was constructed and fully fitted with modern learning tools. This kindergarten will provide day-care and pre-school education to 40 local children.
The grant amount for this project was slightly more than $90,000 USD (about 215,000 GEL).
The GGP provided assistance to relatively small projects implemented by non-governmental organisations and aimed to improve the living standards of Georgian people. It applied to projects in the fields of public health, education, social protection, environment and poverty reduction.
Since 1998 145 GGP projects have been financed in Georgia by the Japanese government, totalling more than $14 million USD (about 33 million GEL).
The size of Japan’s Official Development Assistance to Georgia has reached over $370 million (about 882 million GEL), covering a wide spectrum of areas such as improvement of economic infrastructure, agricultural and social sectors, culture and human resource development.
