Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre is standing in solidarity with the people affected by the deadly flood that struck Tbilisi on Saturday night.
Festival organisers decided that all money generated from ticket sales from the September-October 2015 Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre will be donated to the rehabilitation fund for victims of the Tbilisi flood.
Tbilisi is in danger today and we have decided that all money generated by tickets sales will go the rehabilitation fund [to support] victims of the Tbilisi flood. We strongly believe that assistance and support will be needed in September too,” announced the Festival on its Facebook page.
Georgia’s Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri initially said a preliminary estimate put the damage at 40 million GEL but yesterday he reassessed the situation and said the damage "now seemed way more than this”.
When the festival begins on September 25, three months will have passed since the Tbilisi flood. It is believed clean-up and recovery efforts will continue for the near future.
The Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre is held every year at the end of September and attracts attention of the most well-known, creative, provocative and innovative theater productions from the world.
