The summer season is heating up in Georgia’s Black Sea coastal town Batumi – a street festival is taking place and you’re invited.

For the next six days the whole town will be open for the Street Theatre Days where street artists will show off their talents and spectators can enjoy singing, dancing, theatre and more.

Dozens of acts will feature in the Street Theatre Days, which is part of the two-month summer campaign Heat Batumi 2015. It’s a free outdoor celebration that encourages and supports performances by Georgian and international artists.

The outdoor festival opened last night with an incredible show by British seven-piece group Spark Led Drummers, which turned into a big party that saw revellers dance to the wild percussion sounds.

Street Theatre Days organiser Eka Mazmishvili said guests to the outdoor festival could expect an unforgettable show of Bollywood Masala Orchestra today. The group was a "very known and funny band” from India whose performance will take place at the Batumi tennis courts.

"I hope all tourists and residents of Batumi will enjoy these days”.

People from all walks of life are encouraged to watch one or more of the outdoor shows, as all events in the next six days are free to attend.

Street theatre is arguably the oldest form of theatre in existence: most mainstream entertainment mediums can be traced back to having origins in street performing.
