A delegation of Romanian government members, led by the country’s Prime Minister Victor Porta, are enjoying an official visit to Georgia.
After meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the country’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Parliament Chairman David Usupashvili and other Government members yesterday, the Romanian delegation travelled across Tbilisi and enjoyed its surroundings.
Today on their second day in Georgia, Prime Minister Ponta laid a wreath at the Memorial of the Fallen Heroes for the Unity of Georgia. The official ceremony included a guard of honor and playing of the Romanian and Georgian national anthems.
At midday the delegation visited the Georgian National Museum then went sightseeing in the town of Mtskheta.
Ponta visited Mtsketa’s Jvari monastery and Svetitskhoveli temple with the members of the Romanian Government. Georgia's vice Premier and Minister of Economics and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili accompanied the guests.
Kvirikashvili said the visit of high ranking Romanian officials was very important for Georgia and it would support strengthening of the bilateral relationship.
The Romanian Governmental delegation members are the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economics, Sport and Youth Affairs, Members of Parliament and the head of the Olympic Committee.
Later this afternoon Ponta and Garibashvili attended a rugby game between the Romanian and Georgian national teams in Tbilisi.
