Georgia wins gold and bronze at international karate event

Two Georgian karate fighters are among the best in the world after beating more than 1,000 athletes from 55 countries at an international karate tournament in Dubai.

Gogita Arkania (84 kg) won the gold medal and Henri Vekua (75 kg) received bronze at the Dubai Karate Open.

The Dubai tournament is the highest level of international competition in karate. This year more than 1 300 athletes from 55 countries participated in the prestigious event.

The total prize pool of the tournament was $100,000 USD.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Arkania and Vekua signed contracts with Kazakh and Kuwaiti karate clubs, who aimed to gain top fighters before next month’s Asia Karate Tournament.
