Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday highlighted the “great success” of hosting the 2025 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in the country’s capital Tbilisi, Black Sea city of Batumi and winter resort of Bakuriani this month.

Kobakhidze cited the “high praise” received from international partners, noting the country had “raised the bar” in hosting such tournaments.

The PM thanked Sports Minister Shalva Gogoladze, Leri Khabelov, the Head of the Georgian National Olympic Committee, and other individuals involved in organising the event, which featured up to 1,000 athletes from 45 countries competing in eight winter sports.

The head of the Government also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to “attracting and hosting similar competitions at the highest level”.

The Georgian Olympic team concluded the Festival with one medal, where Inga Gurgenidze, a 16-year-old figure skater, made history by winning the country’s first-ever gold in the discipline.
