Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze on Wednesday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s ongoing visit to Kazakhstan, was a “good opportunity” to discuss “progress” and plans for the Middle Corridor, a logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus.

Karseladze described the visit as “very important”, highlighting “many matters” that he said required “discussions and solutions” between the two states, including plans to further strengthen cooperation, while also noting the “key importance” of the Corridor in infrastructure development.

Infrastructure advancements are a necessary prerequisite for further increased cargo flows, and in addition, the Middle Corridor is gaining even more relevance in terms of international regional importance”, he said.

Given the ongoing developments, the attractiveness of this critical section is increasing even more, and Kazakhstan is one of the countries that is significantly interested in the development of the Middle Corridor to facilitate movement of even more multimodal cargo, and not only”, he added.

The Minister also said the discussions would “not only benefit relations but also contribute to the broader development of the Corridor and international trade routes”.
