Exports of Georgian wine to 47 countries of the world amounted to 16.7 million litres between January and February, totalling $47.6 million, the country’s National Wine Agency announced on Tuesday.

The Agency said the volume of exported wine had increased by 16.7 million litres - a 43 percent rise compared to the same period of last year.

It added the “strategic market” for Georgian wine in Poland had experienced a “notable boost” of 27 percent in exports this year, following a two-year downturn due to the “crisis in the wider region”.

Germany, the largest export market, maintained “stable” growth rates of 4 percent over the past few years, it also said, while exports grew in other “strategic markets” such as Estonia (by 41 percent), Japan (549 percent), Ukraine (27 percent), Canada (472 percent) and Israel (37 percent).

The volume of exported alcoholic beverages increased by 48 percent, while revenues amounted to 46 percent.
