Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said a “fair and constructive” approach was helping develop relations between Georgia and the European Union, noting the decision of the European Council to grant the country the bloc’s membership candidate status last year had “positively” affected the deepening of the ties.
He also claimed “unjust statements and resolutions” by representatives of European institutions toward the Georgian Government had now “essentially come to the end”, with the development making a “positive impact” on bilateral relations.
The PM said he had held a meeting with Paweł Herczyński, the EU Ambassador to Georgia, where “I told him directly that if the unfair statements from the European politicians would stop [...] there would be zero reaction, zero negative statements from our side”.
Kobakhidze also extended his gratitude to Herczyński for his “personal approach” to the subject, and extended the same message to “all those [European] politicians who have understood the claims of the Georgian Government”.
