Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday appointed Vakhtang Gomelauri, the country’s Interior Minister, as a Vice Prime Minister of the country, the Government Administration announced.
The appointment raises the number of vice prime ministers to three, with Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, serving as the First Vice PM, and Irakli Chikovani, the Defence Minister, also holding the role of a Vice PM.
Gomelauri previously served as the Deputy Interior Minister between 2014-2015. In January 2015, he was appointed as the Interior Minister and in August of that year assumed the position of the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, before returning as the Minister of Internal Affairs in 2019.
