Aleksi Batiashvili, the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, on Wednesday discussed activities carried out in the Action Plan of the National Strategy for reducing chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats throughout 2024 and achieved results at the eighth meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council for Combating CBRN Threats.
Batiashvili highlighted the importance of successful cooperation and inter-agency coordination among members of the Council and of strengthening the country's capabilities.
The official also emphasised the role of regional and international cooperation in establishing effective mechanisms to combat CBRN threats, adding these formats provided a “unique way to familiarise with international standards, best practices and effective approaches to responding to challenges”.
The meeting involved Lasha Darsalia, the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the country, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Interior Minister, Tea Giorgadze, the Deputy Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister Environment Protection and Agriculture, Paata Patiashvili, the Deputy Minister of Defence, and Levan Girsiashvili, the Head of the National Security Council.
The discussion was supported by the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Risk Reduction Initiative, with the next meeting to be held in 2025.
