Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s acting Prime Minister, on Thursday said it was “important” to “deepen both political partnership with China and further expand trade and economic cooperation”, adding the Government would “continue to actively ensure” the objective.

Addressing the Parliament ahead of his Government’s confidence vote following last month’s general elections, Kobakhidze said deepening the strategic partnership with China would be “one of the most important priorities” of his Government.

He highlighted the progress made in the past year, particularly with the signing of the agreement between the two countries.

We made great progress in this direction last year, when the strategic partnership agreement was signed between Georgia and China. Now our main task is to realise all the priorities reflected in this agreement to the maximum. We already have specific tangible results in various directions, including the introduction of a bilateral visa-free travel”, the acting PM said.

He further highlighted “tangible progress in various directions” under the partnership.
