Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said if the European Union wanted a “regime change and  return of “criminals to power” in the country,  the EU Ambassador  “should confirm it”.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze claimed the domestic opposition was  “directly talking about”  the bloc's goal being “regime change” in Georgia.

I think you should ask  EU representatives whether regime change is their goal in this country. I think it would be good if you asked this question to the EU Ambassador to Georgia. This is a pertinent question, given that the opposition is directly talking about the EU’s goal in Georgia being regime change and  return of the United National Movement party to power - return of those who tortured and killed people in this country, seized businesses, TV stations, and dragged this country into war”, the PM told reporters.

He further denounced the fact that Davit Kirtadze - a member of the UNM  who last week threw black paint on Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Central Election Commission - on Thursday visited the EU office in Tbilisi, by saying the move showed “support for hatred, which is very disturbing”.
