The importance of the strategic partnership format between Georgia and the United Kingdom, and sectoral collaboration within it were discussed between Teimuraz Janjalia, Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Gareth Ward, the Ambassador of the UK to the country on Wednesday, the Ministry said.

At the introductory meeting, the sides exchanged views on current topics of bilateral relations and also reviewed “successful cooperation” between the two countries within the framework of international organisations.

Parliamentary elections held last month in Georgia were also part of the discussions, with Janjalia thanking international observer missions for monitoring the vote.

The Georgian official stressed the “irreversibility of European choice” of the country, and highlighted the significance of a “united and consistent position of the international community”.

Ward briefed the Deputy Minister on the position of his Government regarding regional security challenges and emphasised the “strong support of official London to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia”.
