The American daily newspaper The New York Times is displaying a banner promoting Georgian wine on its official website, which is visited by 100 million readers weekly, the Georgian National Wine Agency said on Wednesday.

The Agency noted the publication was coming within its promotion campaign for increasing awareness of domestic wine.

The United States, as a strategic market of the Agency, has since 2013  “significantly” contributed to the increase of exports of Georgian wine, the body added. It added it had invited journalists and wine professionals to Georgia within the campaign this year and held large-scale wine tasting events in New York.

Within  promotion campaigns implemented in 2023, the Agency has cooperated with American media outlets CBS and CNN, which it said had contributed to an “unprecedented surge“ in wine sales in the US in late 2023 and during the current year.

The Agency also noted it had continued cooperation with the American wine publication Wine Enthusiast and other media agencies for marketing campaigns.

The body added over one million litres of wine had been exported to the United States between January and October of the current year, marking a 58 percent year-on-year increase.
