Georgia's National Intellectual Property Centre and Kutaisi International University in the country’s west on Wednesday signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at enhancing collaboration on scientific and educational projects for enhancing the protection of intellectual property in the country.

The Centre added the memorandum also included goals to increase public awareness, foster innovation and creative activities, and improve the qualifications of students and graduates.

Additionally, the Centre will give Kutaisi University students and staff access to training courses and materials from the European Patent Office Academy. The body said this would help them gain the skills and knowledge needed to use patent information effectively in their research.

As a result, they can better commercialise and protect their innovative projects. This support will enhance the University’s international competitiveness and contribute to the growth of the nation’s innovation ecosystem”, the Centre said.

The body also announced discussions were underway regarding the introduction of an international master’s programme in intellectual property education in Georgia, with plans to sign a tripartite memorandum involving the World Intellectual Property Organisation, Kutaisi University and the Centre.
