The Georgian Revenue Service on Saturday announced the Government of China had handed over X-ray inspection systems to its Customs Department during a ceremony held at the Sadakhlo customs checkpoint on the country’s southern border with Armenia.
Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Zhou Qian, attending the event, delivered speeches on the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
“These X-ray inspection systems meet modern standards. This is a very important project that serves to safeguard the security of Georgia's economic borders and ensures safe international shipments”, Khutsishvili said while thanking the Chinese Ambassador for the support.
Zhou Qian noted China “has always been a friend of Georgia and now we are strategic partners” and highlighted the “joint work on the idea of the Middle Corridor project [a logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus].
The Chinese Ambassador expressed confidence that the inspection equipment manufactured by a “leading company in this field in China” would “help improve the operations of the country's Customs Department” and contribute to “enhancing Georgia’s logistics sector and giving benefits to all countries involved in the [Middle] Corridor [project]”.
The Revenue Service said the transfer of X-ray inspection systems to Georgia was the “result of a long-term partnership between Georgia and China” and added such modern equipment enhanced the capabilities of the country's customs service, ensuring the security of the global supply chain and strengthening Georgia's transit potential.
