Georgian Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia on Saturday announced a new olive oil factory would be built in the town of Dedoplistskaro in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region, at a symbolic capsule-placing ceremony at the construction site, which was also attended by George Svanidze, the Head of the Georgian Olive company, the Ministry said.

"With the support of the state, within the Plant the Future programme, olive gardens were planted on over 3,000 hectares of land across the country, with most of them planted in Dedoplistskaro. Every year, we expect rich harvest [and] it is important to process production at the site”, Shamugia noted.

The Minister added the new enterprise would “further contribute to generating employment and bringing well-being to more farmers in the region".

George Svanidze said the Georgian Olive company had planted a garden with a million olive trees within the state programme, adding the construction of the new factory would be completed in nine months.

“The enterprise will be equipped with modern technologies, where it will be possible to process the entire harvest of olives grown in Georgia”, Svanidze noted and added that around 250 additional jobs would be created with most of the local population to be employed.
